Frederick Ernest "Ernie" Barthel, 84, of Powell passed away September 6, 2017 at the Kobacker House. Ernie was born on January 31, 1933 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to the late Fred and Emma Barthel. Ernie was a 1958 graduate of The Ohio State University, and became a Certified Public Accountant in Ohio and Indiana. Ernie was a Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer for American States Insurance in Indianapolis, Indiana. Ernie was an avid O.S.U football fan who had season tickets for 60 years. He enjoyed traveling throughout the United States, Europe, and Asia. Ernie is survived by his children, Michael (Cheryl) Barthel and Julie Barthel; grandsons, Matt (Carley) Barthel and Bryan Barthel; brother, Hank (Cinda) Barthel; sister, Esther Pullen. Ernie is preceded in death by his parents and wife Maryann Barthel. Family will receive friends on Wednesday, September 13, 2017 from 12 noon-1 p.m. at the POWELL UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, 825 E. Olentangy Street, Powell, Ohio 43065, where a memorial service will follow at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in memory of Ernie to the Ohio Health Foundation, 180 E.
