Kathleen A (Flugge) Smith, age 98, beloved mother, sister, aunt and great aunt, entered into eternal life, with family at her side, on Wednesday, May 17, 2018 at Wesley Ridge after a short illness. The former resident of Upper Arlington was born Feb. 11, 1920, was a graduate of West Jefferson High School and Columbus Business College and also a member of Northwest United Methodist Church, Upper Arlington. She was a retired administrative secretary at OSU Agricultural College and inducted into the OSU Farm Science Review Hall of Fame in 2000. Kathleen was preceded in death by husband Richard O. Smith, parents Edward and Hazel Flugge, brother Elden Flugge, sisters Marjorie Flugge and Eleanor Timmons, niece Jeanne Tait and nephew Mark Flugge. She is survived by daughter, Linda Smith (Glen Kern) of Costa Rica; brothers, Edward (Ethel) Flugge of Chillicothe, Tad (Nadine) Flugge of Pickerington; and many special nieces and nephews. Earlier in her married life, she resided in South Dakota and Nebraska, where Dick managed a ranch owned by Gov. Sam McKelvie. Upon returning to southern Ohio they farmed several years, then moving to Upper Arlington, where both were employed by OSU. A memorial service will be held at Barnes Chapel at Wesley Ridge, 2229 Taylor Park Dr, Reynoldsburg, OH 43068 on Monday, May 21 at 11AM with a 10AM calling hour, with Rev. Richard Thomas officiating. Instead of burial, Kathleen has donated her body to the OSU College of Medicine, Body Donor Program. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Wesley Hospice, 4588 Wesley Woods Blvd, Suite 2A, New Albany, Ohio, (614) 451-6700, or Wesley Ridge, 2225 Taylor Park Dr, Reynoldsburg, OH 43068, (614)759-0023. Kathleen will be deeply missed by all the lives she touched with her lovely smile, caring ways and wonderful sense of humor. She is cherished by her family.
