I just now discovered Col Cole passing and I am a bit heartbroken. I was blest with the opportunity to share a few moments with Col Cole at the 70th Anniversary Reunion at Wright Patterson AFB and shared a few phone conversations with him before and after that blessed day. Tom Griffin made all of these blessings possible. I was so impressed with Col Coles humility and sense of humor. He was so easy to love. As the escorts were leading the four Raiders into the banquet hall, my friend asked Col Cole if he could get a picture of him with me. His escort said no, that they didnt have time. Col Cole said, Were not in that big of a hurry. Come over here young man. What a gracious gesture that was to me. I was in the USAF from 1958-1962 and worked with many flight crews as they brought their flight plans to Base Ops to be filed with the FAA and Flight Service. Enlisting at 17, raised on a country farm, I was in awe of the dignified demeanor of our Nations military officers. They definitely raised the bar for me. My deepest sympathy to all of his family and my sharpest salute. PTL for Col Cole.
