Christobal Chavez, 94, passed away on Monday, May 3, 2021, at home in Clovis, NM. A visitation will be held on Thursday, May 6, 2021, from 1:00PM to 5:00PM. A rosary will be held at 3:00PM on May 6, 2021. A Mass of the Resurrection will be conducted on May 7, 2021, 10:30AM, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 108 North Davis Street, Clovis, New Mexico. Father Eli Valadez will be officiating. Julio Mondragon, Eldon Russ Jr., Randy Chavez, Severino Chavez, Bryan Lopez, and Ray Paiz will serve as pallbearers.
Christobal was born on May 7, 1926, in Alamo, New Mexico to the home of Victor and Antonia Cordova Chavez. He married Rosa Chavez November 4, 1950. He was a cement masonry worker. Christobal loved fishing and hunting. He enjoyed playing the violin, guitar, and numerous other instruments. He was an excellent storyteller, had a great sense of humor, and always had words of wisdom to share. He was deeply religious, ending every conversation with "God Bless You" and prayed the Rosary daily. Christobal loved his family with all his heart.
He was preceded in death by his wife; Rosa Chavez of 56 years, his daughter; Mary-Ann, two grandsons; Patrick and Jimmy Mondragon, eight brothers; Abel, Santiago, Dorotéo, Salomon, José Inez, Juan, Alfonso, and Victor Chavez, and five sisters; Dolorita Chavez, Eulalia Mirabal, Rita Salazar, Julia Salazar, and Joséfa Paiz. He is survived by one sister; Teresa Paiz, two sons; Ralph (Joy) Chavez and Chris (Sharon) Chavez; three daughters; Sophia (Eldon) Russ, Sylvia James, and Kathy Chavez, all of Clovis, NM; twelve grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild on the way.
