Greg Hawick coached me from a young lad at South Wagga Primary, through to First Grade at Turvey Park Lions.
A sporting legend, coaching a local primary school, that was Greg. Milk shakes at the corner store after a finals win. Greg knew what a real treat that was back then. He has always been a legend and a mentor to countless young sportsmen his influence touched.

Greg may never have realised what a lifelong mentor he was to me. Dealing with the antics of a naughty schoolboy, the countless private coaching tips and life choices advice to a teenager regarding alcohol , driving and manners generally. Greg Hawick was very influential in shaping the young man who left Wagga for University and rugby league in 1982. How I wish I had told him this personally.

I am deeply saddened by Greg's passing and extend my deepest condolences to Mrs Hawick and the girls. It's been a very tough period for the family. I hope this message conveys the strength it intends to.

Steve Stone and family.
