I am shocked and saddened to hear about Dr Gyurme's passing, and come to this news late as we were at this very time without news for the month of February while syzygetically practicing with his Master, Kangyur Rinpoche's sons and daughter here auspiciously in Australia.
So sorry to find out today about the recent loss of such an irreplaceable being...not least to his direct family and friends.
But his passing is a great loss to the world and human culture as a whole. And most particularly to us of the rarest of species - those of us with the inclination towards seriousness in our spiritual quests, that of the Western students of the Tibetan teachings.
He has left us with precious jewels of legacy in his translations, so lovingly worked on together with, and through his devotion and respect of, his great masters.
But still, to have lost such a wealth of knowledge and language and skill as found in this one man, as it takes decades to achieve, and for that expertise to leave with him,
it is sad for us all...

I knew Gyurme well, many years ago at Edinburgh University, when we were both young. We got in touch again some years later, and met up in London...and kept planning to meet again. Now of course it's too late. Goodbye old friend; I will miss you.

He made the most amazingly correct and accurate translations from the most esoteric and interesting Tibetan Buddhist texts, but also one of the most difficult texts about the traditional sciences. We only met once, but I was very impressed and in more recent years we tried to help each other on difficult words over email. A person like this can't ever be replaced by anything or anyone. I feel so sad right now...

The world is a poorer place by the loss of this gentle soul.
