Kerry Louise Thompson
May 8, 1950 – August 26, 2021
Kerry loved Jesus and spent her life loving people and pouring her love into others. She met her beloved husband, Jerry, at age fifteen, and they married a year later, on September 24, 1966. Shortly after, Jerry was drafted into the Vietnam War, and Mom was pregnant with her first child, Kenneth. While Dad was at war, his parents Louis and Katherine Thompson took Mom in and became her parents. Louis and Katherine deeply loved her. After Dad returned from Vietnam, they had their second child, Tamberly. The four of them were quite the team! They worked hard and played hard together.
They weren't afraid to be silly and, wherever they went, there was laughter. Dad's antics and practical jokes combined with Mom's sassiness and spunk made for "never a dull moment." In 1999 Mom and Dad's family increased in size and love when they adopted their precious granddaughter, Ashley.
In 1978, the family moved from Ely to Elko, Nevada, where mom worked in the grocery business for many years, mainly at Safeway, where she made life-long friends. She excelled at numbers and kept books for many local companies, including Curtis Adjustment, Steiner Flooring, Cox Electric, and Speedy Specs. However, while she was good with numbers, her most significant gift was her generous spirit and heart for serving others, especially children. She helped raise and take care of numerous children and families. In fact, hardly a year went by that we didn't have a child or family staying with us while they were getting back on their feet. Her daughter's first-grade students were also blessed by her generous spirit, as she took care of their tender little hearts while guiding and assisting them with math and reading. They called her "Grandma Kerry," and she loved it. Finally, one of Mom's favorite places to serve was at the Elko Juvenile Detention Center. She poured the love of Jesus into these young men and women and prayed fervently for each of them.
On September 24th, Mom and Dad would have celebrated 55 years of marriage. Their love was precious and like no other. Dad adored her, showered her with affection, and always took such great care of her. They enjoyed fishing, camping, snowmobiling, riding their side-by-sides, and traveling in their 5th wheel. In fact, for the last couple of winters, these two took their 5th wheel down to Saint George to adventure with their close friends. Their love is such a testament to their children and grandchildren. They stuck together through all the seasons of life, had so much fun, and never gave up on each other.
Kerry was born to Vernon and Vera Winters in Ruth, Nevada, on May 8, 1950, and passed away on September 26, 2021. Kerry was preceded in death by her parents and her older brother, William (Bill) Winters. Kerry is survived by her son Ken Thompson (Julie), her daughter Tamberly Jueschke (Warren), her granddaughter Ashley Barnes (Korry); grandchildren Elizabeth Thompson and Jacob, Sarah, and Samantha Jueschke; in addition to her great-grandchildren Liam, Grayson, and Ethan Barnes and Anastasia and Davina Glamuzima.
Mom was ready to be with her Lord and Savior and was at peace upon her passing. We take so much comfort knowing she is safe in Jesus's arms and that she and dad will be reunited. To say she will be sorely missed is an understatement. Mom loved deeply and was loved deeply by so many.
Services for our beloved parents will be held in the spring.
