Mrs Martinez was a great teacher at Ascarate Elementary when I was there. She was a great person as well and taught us to follow our dreams and travel the world. Well I did travel the world but never to Russia where Mrs Martinez so passionately taught us the language during our six grade year there.May you forever rest in peace and it's not a goodbye but an I'll send you later! In heaven you can teach me Russian once I get there again!

I have such deep gratitude in my heart for my Nina, Debbie. I met her at a young age as Mari's mom, who has been a dear friend of mine since childhood. She was so easy to talk to; she wanted to learn about you. She invested in your passions and in your person. She challenged you to expand you mind and your horizons by example- she was always educating and she was always learning. Even as a child, she made me feel that I had someone who believed in me and someone who would always listen, which is the greatest gift you can give a anyone, let alone a young person. She was also so funny and had a terrific laugh- the kind that always made you start laughing regardless if you knew why she was laughing or not. Debbie was warm - so, so warm- and she'd hug you as if you were her own. Though I asked her to be my godmother during my confirmation, no formal terms or titles were ever necessary. She was a beautiful mother figure in my life, one who I think about often as navigate motherhood with my own little ones. May we all be so radiant, may our love be as impactful, may we laugh and love and explore and learn in this life everyday we have the gift of waking, as she did.

Mari, I send you and your family all of my love through this time of incomparable loss. Your mother was a beacon of light in all of our lives and I know she will continue to shine her light and her love down on you all.

Leah and Martinez family...I loved your mama. She was always a classy, knowledgeable but mostly kind and gave of her heart always. I had the pleasure of knowing her through the TLI grant and our work together in education. Beautiful soul who now is blessing heaven with her grace and poise. I just lost my mom in November and I'm almost certain the two have found each other and hit it off and will be shining down blessing on their families, their children and grandchildren who they adored. May God bless you with peace and understanding to cope with this huge loss but heaven's gain. My mom used to say it was a Win-Win...she got to stay with us for a little while and now she gets to see God. My sincere condolences. She was a blessing to anyone whom she graced with her love and blessing! Love Monica Franco
