Love you Grandpa, sorry I am not there to say goodbye.

Grandpa, we celebrate the memory of your spirit as we mourn the passing of your body. You showed me how to be loving and generous, kind and thoughtful, all the while quietly nourishing my inquiring mind with trivia about classic movies, jazz music and the US Marine Corps. We had our moments of funny incidents that I will cherish in my heart. Your fantastic stories always made me want to stay in your den a little longer. The one about you riding the rails to L.A. during the Depression years spelled out major possibilities in my own life. I was proudest of all when I could introduce you to Lilica, your great-granddaughter, before we returned to Japan. She's a kindred spirit whose inner fire reminds me so much of yours. We will miss you and we love you dearly. Yet, now you are free and can rejoin Grandma for another dance up in Heaven. God, cue up Glen Miller's "In the Mood."
