I worked with Miriam at the professional library in the late 1980s. I was the library clerk in charge of receiving and shipping boxes of books out to the schools. The rare times that I managed to get caught up with that, I got to help Miriam with cataloguing. I had a million questions because this was before I was able to go to library school, but Miriam was very patient about answering them and giving me some of the pre-MLIS training that came in very handy when I did get to study formally.

Miriam was the librarian at Bowie High School when I first taught there in 1974. We shared a love of reading and had similar tastes in books. Miriam was wonderful with the students--so tolerant and patient and encouraging. Everyone loved going into her library. It was certainly a refuge for me. I have thought about Miriam many times and I'll never forget her. I extend my sympathies to her family.

Such a lovely lady. She always made me feel a part of the family, even though we didn't see her often. She was my aunt.
