Roy Doebbeling Obituary

Roy D. 'Dobie' Doebbeling
WHITE TOWNSHIP
Roy D. Doebbeling "Dobie," age 71, passed away peacefully on March 28, 2020, at the Community Living Center at the VA Lyons Campus after a long battle with Lewy Body Dementia (LBD), Parkinson's Disease and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) due to his service in Vietnam.
Dobie was born in Charlestown, WV, on Dec. 1, 1948, to the late Alfred and Ilse (Quasdorf) Doebbeling. Dobie grew up in Lincoln Park, NJ, and graduated from Boonton High School class of 1966, and attended Fairleigh Dickinson University on his GI Bill.
Dobie proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War as a sergeant. He never spoke of his time in Vietnam, but he was a true "Yankee Doodle Dandy" as he would refer to himself and he believed by volunteering to serve, he did what was right and honorable.
Dobie was employed at Roche in Nutley, NJ, and then Belvidere, NJ, from May 1, 1972 to Aug. 11, 2000, until he became disability. He moved to White Township in 1978, after building his log home. He was a member of the Italian American Social Club and former FLEAS Club and LAMA Club. Dobie was also a member of the American Legion Post 131 in Belvidere, NJ, and past Commander of the VFW Post in Belvidere, NJ, for 20 years.
Dobie's love were fishing and golfing and his N.Y. Mets and Miami Dolphins. He loved his two grandchildren from here to the moon back and especially enjoyed watching them play soccer prior to his disability. He was proud of them and would share their accomplishments with the other residents at Lyons.
Dobie is survived by his loving wife of 26 years, Peggy Verenna Doebbeling "Bartha," who was his sole caregiver for 20 years; his beloved step-daughter, Mellissa Estephan and her husband, Jake, and grandson, Anthony and granddaughter, Athena. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law, Shirlee Flynn (Tim) and Tara Verenna (Justin); brothers-in-law, Robert Bartha (Laura); cousin, Edward Mac Doebbeling (Mary Olive), and his first wife, Linda Grish George.
Services will be private. Roy will be laid to rest at Montana Mountain cemetery in Harmony Township.

I was a supervisor at"Roche" at the time that Doebie worked in the department. He had disabilities, but he refused to have anyone help him. We all watched out for him, so he would not get hurt. I particuliarly
talked to him about his present condition.
The reason for this message is to show the type of person he was. I didn't know much about his family, but I send prayers and blessings to all his family and close friends. God bless.

So very sorry to hear of Dobies passing. He was a great guy. First met him when I started a job at RVI back many years ago. He was a foreman in Vitamin C and I worked in maintenance. He was a real pleasure to deal with and work for. My thoughts and prayer go out for his family. RIP Dobie!
