Blanche Jones Obituary

Blanche L. Jones
October 8, 1931 - April 7, 2021
Gig Harbor, Washington - Blanche L. Jones, 89, was born in Marion, Arkansas on October 8, 1931, to Steve and Sarah Martin. She grew up on a large farm and had many duties, including picking cotton and caring for the farm animals. She was the youngest of the Martin sisters and the most outspoken, the protector. Blanche was baptized at True Vine Baptist Church in Marion. She had a thirst for knowledge and excelled in school. She skipped a grade and at 15 attended Tuskegee University, majoring in home economics. She married Charles Wright Sr. (deceased), a sergeant in the army. She worked as an environmental supervisor at St. Joseph and Allenmore hospitals in Tacoma, WA. From the young age of 6, Blanche loved to cook. She had a passion for fishing, camping and gardening. She loved music, dancing and life itself. When illness beset her and she could no longer care for herself or her affairs, she spent the last 10-plus years of her life living with her son, Charles Wright Jr. and his wife in Gig Harbor, WA. Her daughter-in-law became her state-certified caregiver, and Blanche lived out her days in the safety and comfort of their home, with extra help from certified caregiver Elaine Ivery.
She transitioned from this life on April 7th, 2021. She was preceded in death by her eldest son, Andrie Wright, and prior husbands, Charles Wright Sr. and William Jones. She leaves to mourn her passing, celebrate her life and cherish her memory, son Charles Wright Jr, wife Darcy; Debora Tanner, husband Robert; Steven Wright (Signe); Ralph Wright; Yolanda Williams (Leon); 14 grandkids; 8 great grandkids; two sisters: Lucille Martin Jones of Cleveland, Ohio, and Francis Martin Mayfield of Mississippi (deceased), along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends. Embrace her, dear Lord, and hold her close.
Private service for family and friends: Thursday, 4/22/21, at New Tacoma Cemetery, 9212 Chambers Creek Road W, University Place, WA 98467.
