Joseph Curry Obituary

Joseph Brown Curry

Cincinnati - Joseph Brown Curry of Cincinnati, Ohio died at his home in East Walnut Hills on Saturday, May 1st, surrounded by his loving family. Joe was born in Lexington, KY on October 10, 1941 and moved to Cincinnati after his graduation from the University of Kentucky. After his service in the U.S. Army Intelligence, he joined AK Steel and later worked at the Convergys Corporation as the director of corporate communications. Following his retirement, he worked as the Director of Development at the Taft Museum of Art, the Executive Director of the Everybody Rides Metro Foundation and finally as a consultant at Cowan's Auctions. In addition, he was an engaged citizen, serving on the boards of Planned Parenthood of Southwestern Ohio, the Seven Hills School, the Peterloon Foundation, the Turner Syndrome Foundation, and Talbert House. He was also a volunteer for the Freestore Foodbank, Chatfield College and ArtsWave.

Joe's interests were wide and engaging. He was an avid reader, and especially loved works on political or current events, as well as the writings of Richard Ford, Lee Child, Richard Russo and Joan Didion. He loved sailing in northern Michigan, rare bourbon, thoroughbred horse racing at Keeneland, Ansel Adams' photographs of the California coastline and historic architecture.

Most of all, Joe loved spending time with his family. Whether it was discussing a notorious art heist, playing board games or planning detailed vacation itineraries, he provided laughter, love and support for all of those around him.

Joe is survived by his wife, Wynne, his daughters, Shannon (Aren Turpening) of San Francisco, CA, Lisa (Philip Forte) of Nashville, TN, his sister, Diane Curry Gentry, of Lexington, KY, and his grandson, Jack. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider a donation to the Freestore Foodbank, the Taft Museum of Art or Planned Parenthood of Southwestern Ohio.

The family celebrated his life with a private memorial service in the Norman Chapel at Spring Grove Cemetery.

I was so shocked to hear about Joe. I knew him but not as well as I know his sister, Diane. He lived one street over from us, for years & years, when we were all growing up and playing Hide & Seek & other outdoor games. I have fond memories of those days.

To Diane: I am so sorry to hear of Joe’s passing. My thoughts are with you and will be for days to come.

Wynne and Diane: Sally and I send our heartfelt condolences to you both and your families. We loved being with Joe - he was an usher in our wedding 55 years ago - and although we hadn't seen him recently, we missed and will miss him. Joe was a great person and friend.
