Richard J. Slockbower, Jr.
Vernon - Richard J. Slockbower, Jr., age 75, passed away on Saturday, February 20, 2021 at Newton Medical Center. Born in Paterson to the late Richard J. Slockbower, Sr. and Marion (Courter) Slockbower, Richard was one of thirteen children. He grew up in Paterson and moved to Vernon in 1977. He had been employed as an electrical hydraulic engineer for Multi Pak in Hackensack and most recently at Chutes Enterprises in Newark. Mr. Slockbower had a wonderful sense of humor, enjoyed telling stories and writing about them, but most of all, he enjoyed spending time with all of his family and making lasting memories. His compassion, commitment to helping others and easy going nature will be missed by so many people. He was predeceased by his granddaughter, Amanda Nicole Thoenig on December 21, 2019. Mr. Slockbower is survived by his wife of 55 years, Elaine (DeProspo); his sons, Richard, III of Matamoras, PA and Robert of Vernon; his daughters, Regina Thoenig of Lord's Valley, PA, Raina MacLean of Vernon, and Elaine Henderson of Vernon; his brothers, William of Spartanburg, South Carolina and Thomas of Vernon; his sisters, Marion Hancock of Wayne and Janice Eckel of Ringwood; his grandchildren, Anthony, Matthew, Tricia, Jennifer, Katelyn, Devin, Rachelle, Damon, Kai, Kendelle, Nicole, and Jonathan; and his great granddaughter, Amelia Rose. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 25, 2021 at 7 p.m. at the Pinkel Funeral Home, 31 Bank Street (Route 23), Sussex. Friends may pay their respects to the family from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Due to New Jersey government health restrictions, attendees will be limited and are required to wear face masks at all times and practice proper social distancing. In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial donation to the family to help defray the funeral cost. Online condolences may be offered to the family at www.pinkelfuneralhome.com.
