I considered Ron to be one of my best friends growing up. We not only went to school together, but were in Cub Scouts. One of my best memories was at a soap box derby for the Scouts. I lost...badly. I was very upset and can remember sitting on the bleachers crying. Ron sat beside me and provided encouraging words and showed compassion above and beyond his age. I recall that act of kindness often. We lost touch through the years, but I always felt connected to him through that one gesture. I am sure all his loved ones knew this kindness and love. His small gesture many years ago made me a better person. I wish all comfort during this difficult time.
