Thomas Hill Obituary

Thomas D. Hill
BANGOR
Thomas D. Hill, a man so humble and unassuming he didn't even want this obituary, died on Saturday evening, Sept. 14, 2019… surrounded by the Deborahs… his wife and daughter.
Tom was so young, only 81, and still enjoying the great, grand, and wondrous outdoors...the mountains, the lakes, the wildlife, and the mushrooms, which he recently learned to hunt, gather and cook. He taught us all well and shared with us the wisdom that comes from respecting the land, people, cultures, and ideas. Tom is and was and forever will be beloved and revered in these parts as a man who took you under his wing, cared and listened with you, built you up, encouraged, mentored, and offered up a refreshing dose of unconditional positive regard and love.
Thomas was born in Easton, PA, on May 4, 1938, a son of the late and Emil Kathryn (Steinmetz) Hill. He was the husband of Deborah L. (Healy) Hill. They celebrated their 23rd wedding anniversary last January. Thomas was employed as a head cashier at Acme Markets in Bangor, for 42 years until retiring in 1998. He was a member of First United Evangelical Congregational Church Bangor, PA 18013.
In addition to his loving wife, Deborah, Thomas is survived by a daughter, Deborah K. Hill, wife of George Schroeder; two stepsons, Michael and Steven Hanna; two grandchildren, Lizelle and Levi Hill; four step grandchildren, Mackenzie, Tyler, Sophia, and Tiernan Hanna; a goddaughter and niece, Sierra Zaborowski; niece, Jill Hill, and nephews, Terry Hill, Kip Roberts Martin, and Bryce Robert. Thomas is preceded in death by a brother, Robert E. Hill.
Tom's wishes were to be cremated and quietly taken to some of his favorite places on earth for his final rest without a funeral service. We honor his wishes, but we do know that the memorializing of a man like him is important for all of us to grieve. Therefore, a celebration of his life will happen at a future date. Arrangements have been entrusted to Gaffney Parsons Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc. Online condolences may be made at gaffneyparsons.com.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First United Evangelical Congregational Church, 26 S. Second St., P.O. Box 726, Bangor, PA 18013 or Central PA Youth Ministry, Milton Club, PO Box 189, Shamokin Dam, PA 17876 or National Wildlife Federation, PO Box 1583, Merrifield VA 22116-1583.
