Corrine (Merkel) Barnett
Canandaigua - Age 93, passed away peacefully, on Wednesday, February 3, 2021. She is survived by six loving children, Patricia Kierst, Suzanne (Dennis) Bruen, Connie Ealey, James Barnett (Robyn Spedick), Thomas (Lori) Barnett and Martin (Kim) Barnett; son-in-law, Michael Tighe; 14 grandchildren, Jeremy (Suzanne) Kierst, Bryan (Wendy) Kierst, Amy (Ethan) Sleeman, Joshua Bruen (Maureen Rush), Justin Bruen, Benjamin (Hope) Ealey, Harrison and Carolyn Tighe, Vanessa (Corey) Bogart, David (Alexandria) Goben, Kalie (Wade) Ayers, Hannah (Matthew) Dineen, Daniel and Jenna Barnett; 16 great-grandchildren; brother, Joseph (Bonnie) Merkel; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, James E. Barnett in 1986; son, Daniel J. Barnett in 1993; and daughter, Nancy Tighe in 2018.
Corrine was born in Irondequoit and was the daughter of William and Cora (Dietz) Merkel. She and Jim moved to Canandaigua in 1966 from Henrietta, along with their eight children. Corrine was employed at Ontario County Social Services and F.F. Thompson Hospital, from where she retired. She was a member of St. Mary's Church, St. Vincent de Paul Society and a former girl scout leader. Corrine's interests included piano, cooking, baking, sewing, gardening, reading, entertaining and watercolor painting.
Her funeral mass will be celebrated Saturday, February 13, at 11 am, at St. Mary's Church, 95 N. Main St., Canandaigua. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Canandaigua. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary's School, 16 Gibson St., Canandaigua, NY 14424. Arrangements are by Johnson-Kennedy Funeral Home, Inc., Canandaigua.
