Howard Dykeman Obituary

Howard Ray Dykeman, III age 61, passed away peacefully on 3/22/2020 at home in South Wellfleet with his wife by his side after a long battle with pancreatic cancer. Howard was born in Hyannis on 4/12/58 to Ruth Anne (Kemp) Dykeman and the late Howard R. Dykeman, Jr. He was proud to carry on the family name, following his father and grandfather. He was married to Dawn (Darakjy) for 35 years. He enjoyed the small Cape Cod community living. His father was an avid hunter and gave Howard his first gun at the age of 5. For many years after that, he went on hunting trips with his father and friends. Howard even shot a moose at the age of 10. Howard grew up working at his familys restaurants in Provincetown and Truro. After graduating from Nauset High School, he built on the experience of working at the restaurants by attending Johnson and Wales University in Rhode Island, majoring in culinary arts. However, he found carpentry to be his passion in life. Howard worked for Luther Crowell for many years before starting his own business. He had a reputation as a very skilled and creative craftsman. He worked and built many houses in Wellfleet and Truro. He loved to ski, travel, sail and ride his Kawasaki 900 motorcycle. He loved being with his dogs and friends. In addition to his wife Dawn, he leaves behind his mother Ruth Anne, siblings Brian and Terry Blakeley, Stephanie and Roger Gill, Linda Blakeley, Scott and Candi Blakeley, Holly and David Lajoie, Heather Meredith, many nieces, nephews and other family members. He was predeceased by his father and sister, Vicki Blakeley Schmidt. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Jimmy Fund Walk for Team 'Just Wings', PO Box 3595, Boston, MA 02241 or donate blood at your local American Red Cross. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
