Rose Marie Perzan Campbell

Rose Campbell Obituary

GLOUCESTER - Rose Marie Perzan Campbell a wonderful loving lady, 73, joined her heavenly Father on April 12, 2007. She was a native of Chesterfield County, Va., later living in Newport News and the last 34 years in Harcum. She was a graduate of Newport News High School and attended Christopher Newport College for 2 years. She was a volunteer instructor in Nature Studies at Botetourt School. Here she met Lorna Wasp who introduced her to Bird Watching. Rose joined the American Birding Association and over a 10 year period sighted and identified 653 different species in the U.S. and Canada. She traveled to 7 continents, 50 states and many countries in her quest to see different birds. Highlights were Antarctica where she saw 5 different types of penguins and Point Barrow, Alaska where she first spotted the Great Snowy Owl. Rose had an extended world bird list and met many birders worldwide. In her early years she was an excellent basketball and softball player and she was an avid ACC basketball fan to the very end. Go Duke! She worked on building homes for many of her friends. This included everything from design, the ground up, framing, trim and was a fast brick layer. She also worked in her wood working shop making arts & crafts. Rose painted and made her own picture frames. A painting from her Orange Period was treasured. She loved to hunt rabbits with her hunting buddies and her favorite beagles Frick and Sterling Merlin. Many happy hours were spent at the Naval Weapons Station and the INO Hunt Club. Several close friends hunted Big Game with her in Idaho, Colorado & Wyoming. There she personally, with a single shot each, harvested Elk, Bear, Antelope and many Mule & White Tail Deer. She climbed to the top of Half Dome in Yosemite National Park and canoed most of the white water rivers in Va. Hiking, camping and her great love for nature and wildlife were a large part of her life. Her green thumb worked beautifully with her garden, flowering plants and fruit trees. An outstanding cook who preserved her fruits, vegetables and lots of tender venison. Rose was also an accomplished seamstress making dresses and gowns for her nieces. Her parents, Joseph and Dorothy Perzan and her brothers, Charles Shank and Frank Perzan preceded her in death. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Danny B. Campbell, Esq.; her sons, Donald W. Campbell of Harcum and Danny B. Campbell, Jr. and his wife, Kathy of Richmond; and grandchildren David M. and Kristin N. Campbell of Richmond. She is also survived by her brothers Bill Perzan and his wife Mary of Poquoson and Roy Perzan and his wife Becky of Bluemont; sister, Margie Jackson of Covington; and many brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews; loving friends Grady and Barbara Baker, Greg and Marlene Shear, Jerry and Helen Harger, and Pricilla and John Handy; and many dear friends too numerous to list. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, April 15, at Olive Branch United Methodist Church, 10833 Harcum Road, Route 606, Gloucester. The family will receive friends in the church reception hall immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, Rose requested that you take your family out to dinner. Andrews Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
