Susan Freshwater Brown passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 5, 2019 at The Carpenter House in Baton Rouge. Born January 17, 1943, she was blessed with a loving family & many friends, a genuine enthusiasm for life, a phenomenal sense of humor, a brilliant intellect, and a desire to make a difference. Among Susan's accomplishments was her work as the Exe. Dir of the Nat. Children's Advocacy Center in Huntsville, AL, where she was instrumental in creating the CAC program for children who are victims of sexual abuse. The Huntsville CAC model was adopted as the national standard of excellence and implemented nationally. The eldest daughter of Richard Johnson Freshwater and Mary Buckingham Freshwater of Denham Springs, Susan is survived by her loving daughter Nicole Sheets Mabry; daughter Cindia Riise Myrick (Lavon), son Randy Brown (Johnnie), daughter Cindy Bemister (Mike), daughter Billy Brown (deceased); grandchildren Mary Katherine Holland Mabry and Henry Clyde Mabry IV; step-mother Betty C. Freshwater; siblings Mary Freshwater Chapman, Ann Freshwater Melancon, Richard (Iris) Freshwater Jr. & Lawrence H. (Brenda) Crow. Susan was preceded in death by her late husband William C. Brown and her parents. A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, January 14th at 11 am at the St. Francis Episcopal Church, 726 Maple St. in Denham Springs. In lieu of flowers please donate to someone less fortunate than you.

Nicole, I am so sorry for the loss of your Mother. Susan was beautiful soul and such a big part of my life for many years. I just found out about her passing today and I am so sad that I was not at the memorial service. My thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family.
