David Hopkins
Greenville
David "Canepole" Hopkins, 58, passed away Thursday, December 26, 2013 at his home after a lengthy battle with lung cancer.
Born in Greenville, he was a son of the late Harry and Mary Frances Baldwin Hopkins.
David retired as a truck driver with Winn Dixie and Bi-Lo after 30 years of service. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing. His favorite scriptures were a reflection of his faith, Psalm 103 and John 3:16.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Sharon G. Hopkins; son, William Brian Hopkins of Charleston; daughter, Melissa Ann Madden and husband, Charles of Reidville; brothers, Dorian Hopkins, Rev. Daryl Hopkins and Duane Hopkins all of Greenville; and two grandchildren, Breann and Gareth Stone Madden.
Services will be Sunday afternoon, December 29, at 3:00pm at The Mackey Mortuary with Reverend Daryl Hopkins officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:30pm until service time at the mortuary. Burial will be 11:00am Monday at Graceland East Cemetery.

Just heard about David. So sorry, he was the such an inspiration and I cared for him deeply. Never has a patient touched my heart like David. He will remain a part of Glassy Mtn when his flowers he gave me bloom each spring.
