Edna Altizer Lawson RAVEN, Va. Mrs. Edna Altizer Lawson, age 93, passed away Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013, in a Richlands, Va., hospital following a lengthy illness. She was born at Bearwallow, Va., and was the daughter of William Irby and Chloe Catherine Day Altizer. She was a lifelong resident of the area and was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Richlands, a member of the Elderberries; and was the past president of the Raven PTA and the Raven Home Demonstration Club. She was a Richlands High School Class of 1938 graduate. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil C. Lawson Sr.; and one brother, Hubert Altizer. Survivors are two daughters, Wanda Lawson of Richlands and Donna Lawson Whittington of Raven; one son, Cecil C. "Scotty" Lawson and wife, Toni of Richlands; three brothers, Emory Altizer and wife, Lila of Cedar Bluff, Va., Landon Altizer and wife, Ineda of Shortts Gap, Va., and Harold Altizer and wife, Carol of Shortts Gap; three grandchildren, Amanda Pillion and husband, Todd of Abingdon, Whitney Belt and husband, Randy of Johnson City, Tenn., and Cecille Lawson and fiance, Josh Skeens of Abingdon; two step-grandchildren, Meagan Roberts and husband, Jeremy and Jennifer Harris and husband, David; and six great-grandchildren, Virginia Pillion, Teddy Pillion, Henry Pillion, George Pillion, Riley Belt, and Ryan Belt. Funeral services for Edna Lawson will be conducted Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2013, at 2 p.m. at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands with the Rev. Larry Ramey officiating. Interment will follow at Clinch Valley Memorial Cemetery in Richlands. Pallbearers will be: Todd Pillion, Randy Belt, Josh Skeens, Johnny Altizer, Doug Altizer, Danny Altizer, Keith Altizer, and Billy Altizer. Honorary pallbearers will be: Jim Rasnick, Jim Reynolds, and John Willis. Friends may call after 6 p.m, Tuesday evening at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands.
