I have not forgotten the great Chief Franklin W. Kemp. Nor will I ever. A great historian, a great researcher, a great writer, a great author, a great man, a great person and a great Chief Engineer of the Atlantic City Fire Department. He was one of us. A patriot and a server of humanity. He didn't do it for himself, he did it for all of us. That's what I will remember the most about him. Rest in Peace my friend.

I grew up knowing him. He was friends with my father, who worked with him in the AC Fire Department. I also went to school with his daughter, Charlotte. He was also an author. I enjoyed readng "A Nest of Rebel Pirates" about the British attack on Chestnut Neck (now Port Republic). He was a great man and will be remembered.

So many words come to mind, though none of them seem like enough. The world was such a better place while this man was in it. The last time I talked to you Uncle Franklin, I told you that you were always one of my heroes. You acted so surprised, giggled & thanked me. NO! Thank you! The Kemps & the McGrews didn't need blood to be family: they just were. June, oh June (we started it all), Aunt Stella, Char & Waynie: we have to take comfort in our memories & feel better that he's watching over us. I wish I could be there. You're all in my thoughts, prayers & most of all my heart. Rest in Peace, Uncle Franklin: we love you!!!

Sincerest sympathies to the Kemp and Hayes family. He was a good man that served his country in war and his community in peace. Beside his long service, Franklin W. Kemp left us with a rich collection of his excellent historical firefighting books. He also left to us, historical films of The Atlantic City Fire Department's major fires through 1920 forward till 1984.
Thank you Chief Kemp. You will always be remembered and may you always rest in the Peace of Heaven.
