Gene H. Keller CONOVER Gene Howard Keller, 83, of Conover, passed away Wednesday, May 1, 2013, at Abernathy Laurels in Newton. Born March 22, 1930, in Caldwell County, he was the son of the late Charles S. Keller and Irene K. Middleton. Gene was a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church, was a U.S. Army veteran and received a purple heart while serving in the Korean War. He was a member of D.A.V. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Norma Jean W. Keller; stepparents, James F. Middleton and Gladys W. Keller; four sisters; two infant sisters, Katherine K. Johnson and Jonnie Rogers; and two brothers, Paul Eugene Keller and Charles W. Keller. He is survived by sister-in-law, Jane Keller, of Conover; nephew, Charles Keller Jr., of Charlotte; a number other of nieces and nephews; and best friend, Dot Hudson, of Maiden. A graveside service will be Friday, May 3, at 11 a.m. at Catawba Memorial Park in Hickory with Dr. Ed Yount officiating. The family will receive friends from 10 to 10:45 a.m. at Burke Mortuary in Newton, prior to the service. Military Graveside honors will be performed by American Legion Post 16 of Newton.
