James Damato Obituary

FITCHBURG -- James F. Damato Sr., 84, of 43 Falulah St., Fitchburg, died Friday, July 11, in HealthAlliance Hospital/Leominster, after a brief illness.

He was born in Fitchburg, March 23, 1919, a son of Vinvenzo and Theresa (Rodriquenz) Damato, and lived here all of his life.

Mr. Damato was employed as a Construction Laborer of many years for several local Construction Companies.

He was a member of St. Anthony di Padua Parish in Fitchburg.

Mr. Damato was also a Veteran of World War II, serving as a Sergeant in the U. S. Army, seeing action in the European-African-Middle Theatre. He was a recipient of the Purple Heart.

Mr. Damato leaves two sons, James F. Damato Jr. of Fitchburg, with whom he lived, and Vincent Damato of Boston; one daughter, Jody Carbennello of Leominster; one brother, Anthony N. Damato of Sun City, Ar.; two sisters, Josephine Hebert of Leominster and Helen Marois of Eustis, Fla; one sister-in-law, Hilde Damato of Sun City, Ariz.; one grandchild; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Michael Damato of Phoenix, Ariz., and Joseph Damato of Sun City, Ariz., who both died in 1998; and a sister, Rose M. Damato of Fitchburg, who died in 1991.

DAMATO -- On July 11, James F. Damato Sr., 84, of Fitchburg. The Funeral will be held on Tuesday, July 15, from the Smith-Mallahy-Masciarelli Funeral Home, 243 Water St., Fitchburg, (www.masciarellifamilyfuneralhomes.net), with a Mass at 11 a.m. in St. Anthony di Padua Church, 84 Salem St.,Fitchburg. Burial will be in St. Bernard’s Cemetery, Fitchburg. Calling Hours at the Funeral Home are 9 to 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 15.
