HAZEN, John, 79, of Avon Park, Fla., died Monday night, December 12, 2011, at Good Shepherd Hospice, Sebring, Fla. A native of Paterson, N.J., he grew up in Midland Park, N.J., and then moved to Cragsmoor, N.Y., with his family in 1971. In 2002, he moved with his wife to Avon Park. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He worked in research and development with Texaco until his retirement in 1995. He was a member of Wawarsing Lodge #582 F. & A. M and Wawarsing Chapter #153 Order of the Eastern Star, Ellenville, N.Y. He was a member of the Cypress Shrine Temple, Albany, N.Y., an active member of the Cypress Motor Patrol, and enjoyed driving a "mini indy" car in parades. In Florida, he was a member of Poinciana Lodge #227 F. & A. M., Sebring Chapter #126 Order of the Eastern Star and Highlands Shrine Club. He is survived by his wife, Mary Hazen of Avon Park; daughter, Maryann Stearns of Ellenville, N.Y.; son, John Raymond Hazen of Cragsmoor, N.Y.; two grand-daughters, Rachel Santiago of Ellenville, and Heather Stearns of Clermont, Fla.; and three wonderful great-grandchildren.
