Myrna Elaine Steinberger Hess
March 29, 1935 - October 20, 2017
Myrna Elaine Steinberger Hess was born on March 29, 1935 in Yakima, Washington. She grew up in Donnybrook, North Dakota and eventually moved with her family to Silverton as a young girl. She met her loving husband, Joe, while picking strawberries at the young age of 11. Joe and Myrna were married at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Silverton, January of 1955 and celebrated 62 years of marriage. The oldest of six children, she was a natural mother and rejoiced when her oldest son Steve was born. Three years later she was blessed with her daughter, Cindy. She was a loving wife, mother and homemaker, raising her two children and eventually joined her husband Joe working at Great Western Seed company for 13 years.
Her yard was a source of joy for her and she loved sharing her bouquets of cut flowers from it. She loved sewing, and was an immaculate seamstress, making many a dress for herself, her daughter and eventually her granddaughters. She made beautiful quilts for each of her grandchildren years ago that are now frequently photographed with her great-granddaughters playing on them. Myrna loved spoiling her grandbabies and now great-grandbabies with affection. She could frequently be found crawling on the ground playing doggie or pattycake.
A lover of coffee and sweets, Myrna and Joe had several weekly coffee dates with their friends. Always the hostess, Myrna loved sharing her food and her home with family and friends, including beautifully decorated cakes. She loved playing pinochle with friends, genealogy, trips to the beach and other travels. In her most recent years of retirement, she and Joe opened a U-cut Christmas tree farm on their property and she loved sharing her cookies and cocoa with their customers.
She will be greatly missed by many. She is preceded in death by parents, Louis and Norma Steinberger. She is survived by her husband, Joe Hess of Sublimity, Oregon, son, Steve Hess of Molalla and daughter, Cindy Hupp of Silverton. She leaves behind her five younger siblings Arlys Zauner, Deloris Pillar, Diane Nichols, Jim Steinberger and Sherry Parks. Myrna had five grandchildren, Molly Marcum of Corvallis, Kelsey Hupp of Silverton, Jamie Smith of Keizer, Ethan Hupp of Silverton and Trent Hess of Molalla. She leaves behind six great granddaughters and another great grandbaby coming soon.
A service will be held at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Silverton on Tuesday, October 24. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for your thoughts and prayers.

My Mom was a caring and Loving person who always looked for the positive and best in each person she met and knew during her life!! She will be missed by all of us who shared time with her and has earned her place in Heaven!! Thank-you for all the prayers, condolences and support during these tough days. May God Bless each and everyone of you that knew her and shared time with her thru-out her 82 plus years here!! Life is alot shorter here than most think and time goes by at a pretty fast pace. Cherish your time with family and friends and try to see the positive and best in those you know and meet like she did!! I Love you Mom and Thank-you so much for all you have done thru the past years for me and our family!!
Your Son,

When ever I sewed something for Cindy, i always felt honored when Myrna looked it over and said I did a great job. She did everything to perfection, so this always made me feel so good about my sewing skills, if it met with her expert approval. I loved that she sewed all Cindy's school clothes, similar to what I did for my girls There is always a special bond that seamstresses have, so whenever I saw Myrna, I always felt deeply connected to her. She was so friendly and kind. Her caring was very genuine and everyone felt it.

Frank and I are so incredibly saddened by this news. We have many wonderful memories of Myna. She was a very warm, loving, caring person. Frank, Zach and Ryan always looked forward to warm snicker doodles and hot cocoa when they went to get our Christmas tree at Joe and Myrna's each year. Warm memories will of Myrna will live in our hearts forever.
