Pat passed away peacefully of complications from Parkinson's on April 15. She was born September 2, 1931 in Milwaukee, WI to Earl and Kathleen Sanborn. She spent her early years in Wisconsin and Northern Indiana. After graduation from Portage H.S. in Porter County, IN, Pat attended Carleton College and Northwestern University.
While at Northwestern Pat met her future husband, Steve Paddock. They were married October 18, 1952, and celebrated their 65th anniversary last year. Pat finished her education at UCLA while Steve was serving in the Navy.
In 1954 they returned to the Midwest, living in Northbrook, IL and Kenosha, WI. During this period their three daughters were born.
In 1964 they came back to the Golden State, living briefly in Castro Valley and settling in Orinda in 1966. In addition to being a full-time homemaker and mom, Pat was active in Girl Scouts, Parents Clubs, and Garden Clubs. She also worked with her good friend Toni Fauver in preparing books on wildflowers. She became active in Friends of Hospice Orinda, a book club, and a women's investment group. She was an avid bridge player and belonged to several bridge groups over the years. Pat was also an enthusiastic skier and enjoyed tennis and golf.
Pat was diagnosed with Parkinson's in 1993. She was admired by everyone for staying active and involved during the 25 years she lived with the debilitating disease. She was a fighter.
Pat is survived by her husband, Steve, and daughters Susan Mitchell (Mark) of San Carlos, Sandra Skytt (Ed) of Solvang, and Sharon Hamann (Bob) of Lafayette, and grandchildren Cameron Mitchell, Caitlin Mitchell, Charles Hamann, and Stephen Hamann.
A private memorial service is being planned. In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be made to Hospice of the East Bay, 3470 Buskirk Ave, Pleasant Hill, CA 94523.
