Philip J. Adams

Philip J. Adams was born and raised in Bangor, Maine and was the son of Benjamin F. Adams and Grace Russell Adams.
He became a member of the first class of the Maine Maritime Academy, traditionally known as the "Solid 28". He also was the first senior midshipman officer with the rank of Battalion Commander. The first class yearbook reads "He was an inspiration and an example to the entire Corps of Midshipmen". The Board of Trustees graduated him with honors due to his "outstanding qualities of leadership, unswerving devotion to duty and his high scholastic achievement". At his passing, he was the oldest member of the Alumni Association.
Phil attained licenses in the various grades from Third Mate to and including Masters-Unlimited. He acquired his Masters license November 21, 1945 and maintained it for 56 years.
Phil and Dorothy Claire Adams married May 5, 1945. She gave him three children, Dorothy Mary, Dean and Phil, Jr. Dean and his loving wife Dorothy predeceased him. They have eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
On July 1, 1947, he came ashore and began his insurance career as an agent for the Aetna Life and Casualty. He worked his way up to Vice President and Director of Brokerage Agencies. He retired July 1, 1985.
Maine Maritime created a facility for honored guests and named it the Phil Adams Suite. His memberships include California Association of Life Underwriters, Western Agency Officers Association and Society of Chartered Life Underwriters.
He is a veteran of WWII, Campaign Ribbons Atlantic, Pacific, Mediterranean, Enemy Action and Victory medals.
A Mass was celebrated at St. Isidore's Catholic Church in Danville.
