Entered into rest on December 9, 2012 in Fremont, CA at the age of 87. Devoted husband of 65 years to Patricia I. Giese. Beloved father of Linda Kiyohara, and Nancy Ramirez. Treasured grandfather of Melissa Ramirez-Krebs and Joshua Ramirez. Loving great-grandfather of Emily and Katherine Krebs. Dear brother of Reynold Giese.
Born September 26, 1925 in San Jose, CA, Russell served our country and enlisted in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He served 30 years, 21 years of those years active on Submarines. In 1987 he re#172;tired from Morton Salt in Newark. He loved working in the yard and garden, tending to the family dogs, an avid sports fan and walking at Lake Elizabeth. He was a talented artist who enjoyed painting, sketching and playing harmonica. Russell was very ac#172;tive at St. Edward's Catholic Church where he served as an usher for over 40 years. But, above all else, he prided himself on family. Russell was dearly loved by his family and will be truly missed.
A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, December 17, 11am at Fremont Chapel of the Roses, 1940 Peralta Blvd., Fremont, CA 94536. Private inurn#172;ment at Irvington Memorial Cemetery in Fremont, CA.

So sorry to hear of my former Peto mate has left this earth. I'm so glad we kept in touch over the years and had many conversations of our days on board the Peto. Pat, Nancy & Linda; please know that Russ is in a better place and no longer suffering. He will be missed but never forgotten. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all during this time.
