John T. Vaculik, 82, of Swanton passed away peacefully, Thursday, April 8, 2021, at The University of Toledo Medical Center. He was born June 22, 1938, in Blissfield, Mich., to the late Joseph and Catherine (Hornacek) Vaculik. He married Donna Barden on Feb.6, 1960, and she preceded him in death.
John was a 1957 graduate of St. Mary's School in Assumption. Since 1962, John had lived on the St. Richards campus and was the head school and church custodian. He was very active with Sullivan's Restaurant crew cooking chicken on open BBQ pits for several church festivals and other events within the community. John drove the pace car at Raceway Park and for the local Fulton County Fair circuit for several years. He had several hobbies which included hunting, ice fishing, and, above all, cooking. Food was his love language. He loved his family and his grandchildren, and looked forward to time spent with them camping and having family picnics. He spent thousands of hours volunteering his services for those in need. John always had time for friends, family and strangers alike.
John is survived by his sons, Todd (Lori) Vaculik and Eric (Dawn) Vaculik; son-in-law, Brian Hildebrand; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; sisters, Vivian Meleski, Helen (Larry) Hesterman, Lydia Robertson, and Judy (Dave) Frey; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by his son, Greg Vaculik; daughter, Cindy Hildebrand; great-granddaughters, Hayley Mae and Hayden Jean Segrist; brothers, Joe, Frank, and Ed Vaculik; sister, Bessie; and brother-in-law, Ken Robertson.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, April 17, 2021, at St. Richard Catholic Church, Swanton, with Fr. Eric Culler officiating. Interment will follow at St. Richard Cemetery.
Visitation will be 12:15-1 p.m. Saturday at the church.
