Rheta Coleman Campbell
Cocoa, FL - Rheta, 98, was a lifelong resident of Brevard . She was born on August 21, 1919, in Titusville, FL, to the late Rufus and Margaret Carter Coleman. Her family moved to the Cape, living not far from the Canaveral Lighthouse. Later the family moved to the Georgianna Settlement on Merritt Island, where she spent the majority her youth. After graduating from Cocoa High School in 1937, she went to work for Southern Bell, quickly working her way up to head operator and head of the business office. After World War II, she met and married attorney D. Lloyd Campbell.
Rheta was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Cocoa and Cocoa-Rockledge Garden Club. She was a Girl Scout troop leader and taught Sunday School at the First Baptist Church of Cocoa. Later in life she attended Brevard Junior College. During her long marriage and years in Cocoa, she was involved in many community events while raising her 2 daughters.
Rheta's husband, Lloyd Campbell, and her sib lings, Catherine Sellers, Ina Whitten and Henry Coleman, predeceased her. Rheta is survived by her daughters Lloyce Campbell of Merritt Island and Rheta C. Sherman (Tank) of Cocoa, many nieces and nephews and her longtime caregivers Odette Ellis and Charmaine Bramwell.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 A.M., Thursday, March 22, 2018 at Beckman Williamson Funeral Home, 5400 Village Drive, Viera, Florida, 32955. The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service
In lieu of flowers, the family request that you make donations in her name to the Hospice of St. Francis, Inc. 1250-B Grumman Place, Titusville, FL 32780.
