Marjorie Smith Obituary

WATERLOO - Marjorie "Midge" Smith, born on December 21, 1941, in Prattsburgh, N.Y., passed away on September 9, 2025, surrounded by loved ones.

She was the daughter of Katherine Schultz and grew up with her siblings, David, Delmer, Jean, Eva, Pauline, Loretta, and Beulah. In the late 1950s, she moved to Penn Yan, where she met the love of her life, Gilbert Smith. After a brief courtship, they married on October 22, 1960. Many doubted their whirlwind romance, but their love endured for nearly six decades until Gilbert's passing on October 14, 2019, just days before their 60th anniversary.

She and Gilbert began their married life on the family farm in Penn Yan before moving to Seneca Falls in 1968 and later settling in Waterloo in 1976, where they built a warm and welcoming home. Over the years, she worked as a waitress before dedicating 14 years of service to Seneca Nursing Home, where she found her calling in caring for others until her retirement.

Beyond her work, she was a woman of many passions. She cherished camping trips to the mountains, Cayuga State Park, and Sampson State Park. She enjoyed bingo nights with her sisters and countless evenings of card games with friends. A talented baker and cook, she delighted in preparing meals and sharing her love through food. She also had a soft spot for hummingbirds and teddy bears, which always brought her joy.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Gilbert Smith; her son, Michael Smith; her fur-grandchild, Kasey; her mother, Katherine Schultz; and all of her siblings.

She is survived by her son, Kelly Smith (Trina Parsons); granddaughters, Krystle Smith and Ashley Darling; and her cherished fur-grandchild, Vader.

At Marjorie's request, there will be no calling hours or funeral services. Those wishing to honor her memory may consider a donation to the Huntington's disease Society of America.

She will be remembered as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, whose kindness, strength, and love touched all who knew her. Her legacy of love, laughter, and resilience will continue to live on in the hearts of her family and friends.
