Godspeed Jim.
September 24, 2017
Jim was 2 years ahead of me at Catonsville High School. He won "Most Talented" for his trumpeting skills. Truly Outstanding! He was a very careful, deliberate moving person. I knew his music teacher mom, better than I knew him because she was over my Hluse, as one of my mom's friends. Jim's mom was a leader, very kind, strong, and wise. Jim was much like her, except quieter. As adults, Jim and I became close friends in our 60s and he amazed me with all he had done and how he had made such a happy, full life for himself and his large family.Pat and he came to visit me in Newport BeachCA and we went on the best whale watching and dolphin discovery adventure boats ever!!!
So glad I got to know this wonderful, caring, wise, and I intelligent soul. I miss him sooooo. I know he is heaven with
His loved ones, which gives me great peace. Prayers of comfort and sympathy to all who now miss him too.

Jim's mom and my Mom were good friends at Catonsville High School. They were in the same class and celebrated many reunions together . While Jim knew my sister Linda better than me I knew him as a wonderful warm man who loved life and family. His mother was quite a capable woman . In the later years both she and my mother wound up at Glentaff together for a brief time till my Mom passed away. Sending the family deepest sympathy and tons of admiration . Jim is wrapped in the arms of God Love at peace with his family. Jim was a wonderful man.

I got to know Mr. Schafer in tenth grade when he was my history teacher. Mr. Schafer stoked my interest in politics and the political process. I spent 3 years in Maryland Model Legislature (Youth in Government) which Mr. Schafer served as the advisor. We had some wonderful times throughout those years and during our annual trip to Annapolis. Then in my senior year, we had enough students to take AP U.S. History and Mr. Schafer taught the course. I believe it was the first time that he had to prep this class and you could tell how hard he was working. In the end, I got a 5 on my exam and it was definitely due to Mr. Schafer. Beyond the academics, Mr. Schafers sense of humor was second to none. He often shared amazing stories, told hilarious jokes and always made everyone feel welcome. Over the last few years, I have enjoyed talking with Mr. Schafer about travel and politics. Two years ago, Ben Page and I invited Mr. Schafer to a Maryland tailgate and football game and he joined. We truly had a great time. Mr. Schafer got to see us as adults and we got to see him as a friend. Mr. Schafer, thank you for everything you have given to me and all of your former students. You will truly, truly, be missed.
