To the Family of Bob Cairns, I express my sincere condolences in the loss of your Bob and my friend. As one of the first African American women to join the administrative ranks at the University of Michigan-Dearborn in 1975 times were tough. But with the support and guidance of Bob and wonderful caring faculty members like him, and with his kind way of teaching me things about the University culture that I had no way of knowing, I stayed and worked and grew at UM-Dearborn for almost 40 years. I will always remember him as one of the people God sent into my life to help me along the way. He was a true gentleman and teacher for his peers and his students. You all be blessed.

My sincere condolences to Katie and the rest of the family. Bob was the Head of Engineering (later the Dean of School of Engineering) who hired me in 1973. He was very passionate about engineering education. He and I worked together to develop lecture notes and team taught the Introduction to Engineering course in late seventies. I will never forget his smiling face and sense of humor. Fairwell my friend.
