Entered into rest on June 7, 2021. Age 82. Father of Sharon Maitland (the late Randy), John G. (Kristy), Joseph (Lisa) and the late Theresa. Grandfather of Gina, Paul, Kariann, Kaitlyn, Bethany and Brianna. Great-Grandfather of Alister, Cooper and Randy. Former husband of Patricia. Funeral liturgy Friday 10:00 a.m. at St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church (Formerly St. Sebastian) 3965 Merrick St, Dearborn Heights, MI 48125. Gathering at church Friday 9:30 a.m. Visitation Thursday 1-8 p.m. at the Dearborn Chapel of the Howe-Peterson Funeral Home, 22546 Michigan Ave. Interment St. Hedwig Cemetery. The family encourages visitors to wear Red Wing apparel to the visitation on Thursday to celebrate John's passion for The Detroit Red Wings. www.howepeterson.com

John taught me many useful life lessons as a young man. I will never forget these. I always appreciated his pride and spirt. My sympathy to the family, as I know he will be missed.

Coach D had profound and everlasting impact upon me. I am forever grateful to him, I am thankful I played for his hockey teams, and I will never forget his kindness, his humor, his passion, and the lovable man he was.
