What do you say about someone you have known and loved since 1960?
We say he was at home in the kitchen and was a great cook. He introduced us to authentic Mexican food. We loved to join him when he invited us to the Mexican Village to eat, but beware of the hot carrots. He also loved to watch your mouth on fire.
Rene had a sense of humor and told Den not to bring his golf clubs as the course didn't need any more sand traps.
He was an organizer and planned many camping and canoeing trips. You just didn't stay near his tent trailer as his loud snoring kept you awake all night.
We did say wonderful when he invited our family to join their family in Mexico and spend time enjoying the culture and their villa. We all had one of the best experiences of our lives because of Rene.
We say Rene we were so fortunate to have had your friendship all these years and you touched the lives of our family in ways we won't ever forget.
When you loose someone special that you love, they stay with you for ever.
We'll meet again in heaven and continue our friendship.

My sincere sympathy for the Manrique family. I've known Rene for too many years to count. He was my dearest friend and always made me laugh. He will be missed. I can't believe he is gone. God Bless you Rene. L

Our sympathy goes out to Rene's Family and Friends,
We met Rene a few years ago at our ukulele
group here in Waldport, and we appreciated Rene's zany sense of humor and his enthusiasm and zest for sharing his ukulele songs and knowledge. He always had a funny story or joke to tell, and had a great laugh. And, he loved to tell of all the soulful music he listened to while growing up in Detroit. We feel so lucky to have had the chance to meet up with Rene here.
Thanks for being in all of our lives, Rene...

I was so fortunate to have worked for Rene and Carolyn. It was a delight to see what a "soulmate" relationship really was as I worked inside their home for a couple of weeks and saw firsthand the dynamics of their companionship.

One visual memory implanted in my brain is Rene "walking" a big dog (Golden retriever?) down the golf course - the dog running full speed and Rene holding a long leash while driving behind in his golf cart!

My sincere condolences,

Andy Vorpahl
