Joe Edward Washington, Sr.
Mr. Joe Edward Washington, Sr., age 69, passed away January 6th, 2021 at North Florida Regional Medical Center. Mr. Washington was a graduate of Santa Fe High School class of 1970, and a member of Greater New Hope Baptist Church where he served as a member of the Male Chorus, Usher Boars, Brotherhood, and Member of the Finance Committee. He was employed as a Technician with the Carlon Company. Mr. Washington was preceded in death by his mother, Mayola Phelps-Filer.
Mr. Washington is survived by his son, Joe Edward Washington, Jr.(Barbara), Ocala, FL, siblings, Olin Scott, Frank C. Washington, both of Gainesville, FL, Mary Rhodes, Alachua, FL, Alma Howell(David), Jasper, FL, godson, Joe Harris(Betty), Pensacola, FL, six grandchildren, and seventeen great grandchildren.
Graveside Services for Mr. Washington will be held 11:00am, Saturday, January 16, 2021 at Newnansville Cemetery, Alachua, FL, Rev. Gregory Pelham, Eulogist. Arrangements entrusted to Chestnut Funeral Home, Inc., 18 N.W. 8th Avenue, Gainesville, FL. "A CHESTNUT SERVICE"
Mr. Washington will repose in the Chestnut Memorial Chapel on Friday, January 15th, 2021 from 2:00pm until 7:00pm and on Saturday at Graveside from 10:00am until the hour of Service. Family and friends are asked to meet on Saturday at the home of Mr. Mary Rhodes, 10302 N.W. 206th Avenue, Alachua at 10:15am to form the Cortege.
Social distancing and wearing facial masks are recommended by the CDC and the Alachua County Emergency Order, 2020-50. If you do not have a facial mask, one will be provided for you by a Member of Chestnut Funeral Home Staff.
