Nov. 18, 1929-Oct. 28, 2017
Phoebe Cook Dillashaw, age 87, of Cornelia passed away Saturday, Oct. 28, 2017, at her residence.
Born in Winder, Ga., on Nov. 18, 1929, she was a daughter of the late Ernest and Johnnie Lou Thompson Cook. Mrs. Dillashaw worked for Selective Service prior to retiring as an auditor/investigator with the U.S. Department of Education, where she served for 35 years. She was an avid sports fan who was an all-state basketball player for Winder High School in the mid-40s. After graduating high school, she earned an athletic scholarship and played basketball for Piedmont College, where she met her future husband, Wick. Because she was unable to attend church, Mrs. Dillashaw was a devout radio listener of Dr. Bill Coates of First Baptist Church of Gainesville. She also was a strong Republican who enjoyed politics and watching westerns.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Dillashaw was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, William L. "Wick" Dillashaw Jr.; brother, Doc Cook; sisters, Edna Hulsey, Maxine Skinner, Ann Mount, Frances Clack and Johnnie Akins.
Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, Bill and JoAnne Dillashaw and Bob and Elaine Dillashaw, all of Cornelia; brothers, Jack Cook and Harry Cook, both of Winder; grandchildren, Clay and Bonnie Dillashaw, Chris Dillashaw, Taylor and Kyle London, and Natalie Houston; six great-grandchildren.
