ASHEVILLE, NC - - Robert Stephen Cox, 64, of 1329 Tunnel Road, passed away on Tuesday, September 4, 2018 at the Charles George VA Medical Center in Asheville, NC.
Born in Gastonia, NC, he was the son of the late William Barber Cox and Juanita Cothran Cox. He was a graduate of Gaston College, a retired welder and member of Myers Memorial United Methodist Church. He was a U. S. Coast Guard veteran, an avid Tarheel fan, loved sports, landscaping and gardening.
Surviving are a daughter, Heather Cox of Anderson, SC; a brother, Walter Cox and wife, Janet of Bostic, NC; a grandson, William Cox; three nieces, Wendy Brignull and husband, Ross, Beverly Clark and husband, Shan, and Elizabeth Cox; a nephew, Jamie Cox. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, William David (Bill) Cox.
Graveside services, with military rites, will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, September 9, 2018 at Hollywood Cemetery in Gastonia, NC with Rev. Sally Queen officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the graveside.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: Veterans Restoration Quarters, 1329 Tunnel Road, Asheville, NC 28805. The family will be at their respective homes.
