Harold Wayne Hovermale
September 18, 1932 - June 4, 2018
Retired school teacher from Washington County, Maryland. Moved to the Colorado Springs area in 2016 as a resident at Brookdale Skyline. Passed away peacefully with his family at his side.
Wayne is survived by his sister, Nancy Gillotti of Towson Maryland, his wife, Kathryn of 60 years; sons David Hovermale of Manassas VA), Jeffrey Hovermale of Colorado Springs (CO); Two grandchildren Taylor Hovermale of Front Royal (VA) and Morgan Hovermale of Colorado Springs (CO); Two great-grandchildren Bella Hovermale and Jace Hovermale of Front Royal (VA).
Military Service: United States Army - two years. Wayne was born in Rohreresville, Maryland. Received a Master's degree from James Madison in 1964. Received a BME degree from Shenandoah in 1954. He was a music teacher in Washington County, Maryland; Wayne taught music at Boonsboro Middle School for over 30 years. Volunteer work: a founding member of the Maryland Symphony Orchestra; and of the Washington County Maryland Arts Council; was an active member with the Potomac Playmakers of Hagerstown.
In 1989, Wayne and Kathryn Hovermale retired to Sarasota, Florida. Volunteer activities: The John and Mable Ringling Museum; Asolo Repertory Theater serving as ushers, docent, and tour guide.
Wayne's contribution wherever he went was to support the cultural arts. He wanted to provide opportunities to his students in school to music, theater and participating in signing in the chorus.
Wayne wanted to help celebrate the cultural arts and help others to broaden their horizons to the arts and help bring joy and a smile to others. Wayne also grew food and flowers as a gardener, so enjoyed the companionship of dogs and traveling.

Please accept my sympathy on your loss. Mr. Hovermale was my music teacher in 7th and 8th grade at Boonsboro. I always enjoyed music class. I was quite honored when he asked me, as a 9th grader, to be the accompanist for the operetta that he did with the 7th and 8th graders in the spring of 1961. I loved doing that! I hope Mr. Hovermale had a nice retirement. He was a good teacher.
