God bless you, Gary - rest in His peace. As a competitor, a colleague and my news director, you taught me so much in my rookie years! I probably never expressed my admiration of you as I should have - of your encyclopedic grasp of local issues and history; of your status - and this is meant in the BEST of ways - as one of the great "scannerhounds" of all time; of all you showed me about the gritty reality of chasing down the news in the field as a one-man band in the post-film/early videotape days. And long after I burned out on news, I'd be driving down the street and see a Denver station's truck...and, sure enough, it was you, Gary, still getting after it, still going. Amazing. I think Energizer batteries got their ad ideas from you! My wife, Cindy, who met you early in her news career, echoes the sentiments above. She carried your influences into her years as a news director. To all your family and friends Gary, Cindy, our son Liam and I send our sincere and deep condolences. If we all hope and strive for our lives to make a difference in this world, to make others' lives better, rest east Gary...you did.
With Love, Respect & Gratitude,
