Karen Roth Obituary

Karen Ann Roth was born April 11, 1949, in Chicago, IL., to Robert James Roth and Eleanor Norton Roth, both are predeceased. Karen was 72 when she unexpectedly passed away on August 16, 2021, at her home in Long Beach, CA. Karen was an honor student all her life, graduating in 1967 from San Gabriel High School and in 1971 from Immaculate Heart College in Los Angeles.
Karen dedicated her life to educating others either in a formal setting or in casual conversation. Working for years at Long Beach City College before moving on to LA Unified School District, and subsequently to Los Angeles City College. At the time of her death, she was working at East Los Angeles College. Karen's colleagues described her as a "wonderful teacher, kind, patient, resourceful, with a steel trap mind."
Karen was loved by her many international students that she enthusiastically prepared for their academic pursuits in America. Her students, their families and their communities in many countries sought her out for guidance. They enriched her life deeply as she was lovingly enfolded in helping them and their children pursue their dreams of being meaningfully educated.
Karen was a lifelong advocate for the Arts in Long Beach. She was a cherished member of her marvelous book club, "Bookies by the Sea". She was also a member of a caring neighborhood on Theresa Street. Neighbors who always looked out for each other, including a young man who came by to say hello and sadly learned of Karen's passing. He returned with a small bouquet of flowers.
Karen is survived by her brother, Randall James Roth, his wife, Renee, and their daughters Allegra and Emily, her sister Lynn Roth Taylor, her husband Lewis J. Taylor, their son Franklin V. Taylor and his wife Kristen L. Taylor, Karen's brother Richard Francis Roth, his wife Judith Roth and their three children, Joseph Roth, his wife Laira Roth and their daughter Caroline, William Roth and Genevieve Roth.
Karen was gleefully proud of and adored her many nieces and nephews. She was a loving aunt who never forgot a birthday or someone's special interest.
