A Forest School pupil has died after falling from a seaside cliff while on a holiday in Cornwall to celebrate finishing his GCSEs.

Paddy Higgins, 16, who lived in Winnersh, died after a night out on Sunday in Newquay. He was found early on Monday morning after falling on to Tolcarne beach from cliffs above.

Devastated friends have swamped a memorial page on a networking website with messages of grief and expressed support for his parents, John and Maria, and sisters Eve and Rebecca.

Paddy had just finished sitting his GCSEs at The Forest School in Robin Hood Lane.

Headteacher Keith Quine said: “Many teachers at The Forest have known Paddy since his birth for his father, John, is our long-serving subject leader in business studies.

“A gifted sportsman, and a hugely popular boy within his year group and with his teachers, Paddy had intended continuing his studies in the sixth form.

“Indeed, he had attended the induction day at school as recently as Monday, June 29.

“Paddy had one of the most engaging and likeable smiles in our entire community, an easy-going character of huge charm and it is a tragedy that a young man of such huge potential loses his life in such an accident.

“The thoughts of staff and students at the school are very much with his mother, father, his sisters and his many friends.”

Yesterday, friends flocked there to leave flowers, photographs and messages of support in memory of him.

Those we love don't go away,
They walk beside us every day,
Unseen, unheard, but always near,
Still loved, still missed and very dear.

Paddy was a great lad, a friend to my son and fellow rugby player. I stood on the sidelines on many Sundays with Paddy's mum watching them both play their hearts out for the club and school teams. Paddy was indeed a talented young man with a great life ahead of him; he is a huge loss and will be sadly missed. Something must be done to protect our children from this type of accident happening again, it’s too late to save Paddy and I fear something similar will happen again unless steps are taken to minimise the risks. God bless you Paddy; let’s hope your tragic passing will help save others.

As a mother I am sure your heart is torn apart with anguish, but he sounds like a son to be proud of and a really good friend to his mates. I believe he went looking for a friend in a strange town because he was caring and responsible.
Keep Paddy alive in your hearts with happy, loving memories, like those of him laughing with his friends.
He will never be forgotten in Newquay.
God bless you.

heya...

i didnt know you that much but from what ive heard, you were a great friend to alot of people.

We thought of you with love today,
But that is nothing new.
We thought about you yesterday.
And days before that too.
We think of you in silence.
We often speak your name.
Now all we have is memories.
And your picture in a frame.
Your memory is our keepsake.
With which we’ll never part.
God has you in his keeping.
We have you in our heart.

everyone you didnt know. you have our hearts and tears.
you changed everyones life. your presence was always nice. we hope you rest in peace and remember all the good things that you have done and that you are in our hearts forever.

): i know it doesnt help me doing this but my gut said to me that it is all i can do...

My thoughts and condolences go out to Paddy’s family. I didn’t know him or his family, but both of my son’s went to The Forest. Sadly my eldest son Josh died last September at the age of nineteen, so I know only too well what John, Maria, Shireen, Eve, Rebecca, Naomi and Tom are going through. It’s a tragedy when your child is taken from you at such an early age.
Stay strong for each other.
Rest in peace Paddy.

Patrick was a truly wonderful young man who touched the heart of everyone he met. I am honoured to have been his tutor and to have known him, if only for a short time. I certainly feel a personal loss, so I can't begin to imagine how those close to him must feel. I hope we can all take away something from that wonderfully cheeky grin and unrivalled charm. He will be enormously missed.

Paddy was the bestest friend I could have asked for and it's so sad to know he's gone. He made me laugh like no other and never failed to put a smile on my face. The unforgettable memories we shared together will never be forgotten and one things for sure, he will be missed by many. His kindess, genuine concern for others and obvious good looks made him a hero for everyone.
We will miss you Paddy Higgins, forever in our hearts.
Rest In Peace
