Living here in Florida, we are thankful for memories of when we lived in Sparta receiving friendly help from Al whenever we needed items available at the hardware store.
May God grant His peace and comfort in your loss.
With sympathy, Mike and Ardith Matthysse

Our deepest sympathy to Alwin's family and siblings. I will always remember Alwin as a mind-mannered unflappable person who despite his nature had an adventured spirit likely prodded by his brother Jack. So many fond memories of Al growing up and spending time with him and Jack in Sparta. It was always so much fun to be with that pair from hikes in the woods to smoking corn silk to wild rides through the country side and apple orchards trying to escape one of Jacks pursers for dating his girlfriend. Alwin, for many years was the CEO of the Confirmed Bachelors Club but that finally ended when he met Joan. I fondly remember the many adventures with him from breaking into Sparta Baptist so Gary Johnson could play the piano to a nearly all night coon hunt in the woods and many Sunday night hymn sings where we tied strings of tin cans to the axis of participants and laughed uncontrollably as the drove off. Yes, always excitement with the Roger boys as Alwin was kind of Jacks willing facilitators. Behind his kind and gentle nature, so much like his father's was a man who loved adventure. Many God comfort and give you all peace during this difficult time
