We are very saddened by Doug's passing and extend our heartfelt sympathy to Carol, Sarah and each family member he deeply cherished. Doug drew his strength and will to live from his family's unfailing love and care for him. Doug's determination and grit to overcome the many difficult challenges in this life were possible because his heart was filled with love, gratitude and joy, with never a hint of self-pity or hopelessness. Doug's life was about sharing joy with Carol and each of his beloved family members. Beyond family, Doug valued his Lord, exercised his intellect, was awed by beauty in song and creation, honored his commitments and upheld his great integrity and quiet dignity. Doug wasn't stuffy or stiff. His love of language and semantics gave rise to his subtle yet sharp sense of humor. It kept his friends on our toes! Last, but never least, Doug did not ever tire of following that little white golf ball over lush fairways, sand traps, water hazards and into thickets. He was the ultimate Golf Optimist: Doug knew the next round would hold the chance for taking fewer strokes and carding a lower score. In His infinite wisdom, God has probably already recruited Doug as the Assistant Heavenly Golf Rules Official. Our love to you, dear Doug.
