Diane Montgomery Obituary

Montgomery, Diane S. Diane Stephens Montgomery, wife of Gregory Hugh Montgomery, mother to Gregory Jr., Charles "Steve" (Heather) and Margot Montgomery Moran (Thomas) and "Dee Dee" to Chase Montgomery, Quinn Moran, Campbell Montgomery, Brooks Montgomery and Hannah Moran, lived valiantly and with grace. On October 19, 2019, she was reunited with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles W. Stephens, sister Suzanne Stephens Castleman of Little Silver, NJ and many dear friends. Diane graduated from Centenary and Wheelock Colleges with a BS in Education. Volunteering was in her blood. Mentoring school children in Grand Rapids and her years at the helm of Blodgett Hospital's Hodgen Guild were two to which she was devoted. Diane cherished her New Jersey Shore roots and life-long friends there. She considered their 20 years at their cabin on Flag Point on Higgins Lake, her Heaven on earth. To Diane, Diney, Dee Dee, Mrs. Monty or Mrs. M, whatever you called her, family and friends were everything. Daily morning walks with her BFFs, gardening, entertaining in her home, a friendly game of bridge, a good read and a good laugh, made her the happiest. "A glass 1/2 full" person, who considered that a gift. Thank you to Faith Hospice for your supportive, loving care, Gatehouse neighbors and to the too many to name and count friends for the outpouring of love and support. A Memorial Service will be held at 11am Nov. 7th at Mayflower Congregational Church 2345 Robinson Road SE Grand Rapids, MI. The family will receive guests on Nov. 7th from 9:30 to 11:00am at the church. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to: Jason's Dreams for Kids (Making dreams come true for children in need) Red Bank, NJ www.jdfk.org or Music Therapy Program @ Helen DeVos Children's Hospital Grand Rapids, MI. give.spectrumhealth.org

Like so many, who have known Diney, I feel deeply the loss of a great woman and friend. We have known each other since the age of five. We went through Little Silver Grammar School and Red Bank High School together. Our parents were friends. The last time I saw Diney in person was at my wedding to Scott Thorell in July of 1962. Thanks to the Internet and FB, we were very much in touch in the past several years. We laughed together and shared many memories of our childhood, children and grandchildren over the phone. I am so grateful fo those moments we shared! Diney was a positive force in this world, always looking for and finding the good in people and circumstance. To say she will be missed is an understatement. There is a part of my heart that goes with her. Dance with the Angels, dearest Diney♥

What a class act, a truly kind gracious elegant caring lady.
Always put other people first, and exudeded true grace and
Selflessness. Fond memories of working with her at Heirloom

Sandwich for her for lunch..... My husband Curt and I so loved
Her laugh, intelligence, and most of all her kind giving spirit.......she made the world a better place.

My deepest sympathy for the family. I am so saddened by this news. I have many heart warming memories of Mrs. Montgomery
and Margo , Mrs. Castleman and her children , my mom and myself and 2 younger sisters spending the day at Sandlas Beach Club enjoying the summer days at the beach. She was a kind ,loving with a heart of gold. Her smile and laugh lite up any room she walked in. I will always keep her smile in my heart....

We will always look back on our visit to spend time with Margot, Tommy, Greg Sr. & Diane with love & laughter. Being together to watch Quinn perform that night was epic! She was and will forever be one of the kindest & most generous souls we've known. We are honored to have had the opportunity. I will forever cherish the conversations over many many calls. Thank you Diane! Your words of wisdom comforted us when we needed it most. We extend our heartfelt condolences to the family with love. May the love & memories you shared bring peace to your hearts.

I am greatly saddened to learn of Diney's passing, especially because I missed seeing her at the 60th RBHS class reunion last year (I had to abort my trip from NC due to hurricane Michael).
Diney has been among the brightest of lights comprising the Little Silver Elementary School class of '54.
