Luurtsema, Nathan Zeeland On Friday, January 22, 2021, Nate Luurtsema, age 40, passed from his earthly body and family to his new home and heavenly body. On the playing field of life Nate was called home at halftime. Although he was not able to see the second half of life, we were blessed to be able to have 40 years of his life and family that included his children, Niyah and Nixon and his wife, Melinda. Nate's heart and smile are memories not easily forgotten but will always be remembered. We are kindly reminded through this that God's promises are for today and are reminded none of us knows that tomorrow is ours to have. Nate was a loving son, husband, and father. Those that knew him grew to love and enjoy his warm and fun personality. We had a memorable Christmas with all the family and those are memories that we will always cherish. He is survived by his wife, Melinda Luurtsema; children, Niyah and Nixon; stepchildren, Makenna, Mason, Myleigh Herrema; parents, Ross and Terri Luurtsema; mother-in-law, Terri Smit; brothers, Ryan and Rhonda Luurtsema (Makenzi, Braiden), Lance and Nicole Luurtsema (Lane, Landon); brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Tyler and Sarah Sneden; grandparents, Hugo and Donna Vlieger, Marilyn Gould; aunts and uncles, Charlene and Doug Rogers (Kristin, David), Jon and Lorri Luurtsema (Anna, Ethan, Kate) John and Catherine Vlieger (Owen, Ethan), Lori and Dale VanderMolen (Sara, Luke), Julie and Jack Hamilton (Zach, Shannon), Joy and Lester Dickert (Andre), Todd and Tara Gould. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Anthony and Ruth Luurtsema. A private viewing and funeral will be held for the family. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Niyah and Nixon trust fund, PO Box 100, Hudsonville, MI 49426.

Today is the day that as a family we will be saying our earthly goodbyes to Nate. It is also our way to reach out to those of you that have taken the time to give words of encourage & strength but also lend your voice in prayers. Today is the day we will need all of that strength as we say goodbye. Your love and support has blessed our family immensely not only for today but going forward. His children standing by the casket asking when is daddy coming home or folding their hands and praying are memories that will last a lifetime. Although we have had to limit on how many could attend I wanted to share our message on Healing, forgiveness and affliction (something that causes pain or suffering) at our Memorial. That is our prayer for you and your families and ours as we continue our playing field of life. There is a song that we will be playing today "Love will find a way" I believe by Don Moren it is also our song for the ones that have showered us with love. Love you all! Ross & Terri and families.

Goldenboy33....it started with a Lowell / Hudsonville hatred when we couldn't stop #33 on a Friday night. Less than a year later we were living together at the Wood. We laughed more than most people should and sang Monster Ballads in a 12x12 dorm room like it was a concert hall. His magnetic personality made him the life of the party wherever we went. Much love to him and his family. He will surely be missed and leaves a void that will be felt forever.

We remember Nathan as a baby in his old Shady Oak neighborhood. He almost died in the family backyard pool, but survived 38 more years with family and friends. God calls all of us home when our work is done. He is at peace. His work is done.

I write this with heavy heart, as I feel as if Nate was a brother of mine. The years we spent working together were nothing but a time to reflect on the man he really was. I cherish the years we had together, the laughs, the wrestling around, and those rides to work together. I am so so sorry for the families loss, a great son, father, friend has gone to be with the lord! Rest in peace Nate you will be greatly missed by all.

Nate was always positive and supportive, and often made us laugh with his witty sense of humor. He is missed greatly. Our condolences and prayers go out to the Luurtsema family.

He was always very nice to me and always had a smile. Nate as a very sharp kid who came across as confident and very like-able. This is a terrible loss for the Luurtsema family and all who knew and loved him. I can only hope that right now Nate is at peace and brand new.

Every time I watch The Lion King with my kiddos, I'll remember seeing it for the first time with Nate and a bunch of other kids in the basement of the old Fair Haven while our parents were in some congregational meeting upstairs. I'll also never forget being torn when Jenison played Hudsonville in football - wanting to cheer for #33 while surrounded by my fellow Jenison football fans. We may not have been close, but whenever we did see one another, Nate always had a smile and hug for me. You will all be in my prayers and thoughts during this difficult time.
