He was a very funny man, kept us laughing all the time . Also a very nice, kind compassionate soul. We had lots of fun working together with him all those years. We will never forget him. Pray for his family ,friends and his most trusted and loyal friend of all , his dog Tara, who was at his side till the end . Your friend and co-worker , Susie or as Rex affectionately called me Su'er .

I am so saddened to hear about Rex. I cut his hair for about 25 years till I retired in 2019 due Cancer and moving to Hawaii. My sympathy to his family that he loved very much, his siblings and his nieces. He missed his mother so much after her passing and he shared with me about her love of the Tigers and I am a big Tiger fan myself. I will miss seeing his posts on Facebook.

My memories of Rex are from the 60's and 70's. He and his family were members of the same parish as ours: Blessed Sacrament. Rex also worked for my dad, Jim Koelzer, at my dad's pharmacy, Kay Drugs on Plainfield. Initially, Rex worked as a store clerk, then later, as a pharmacist. I still remember my dad talking about Rex and being almost in awe of his very special qualties. He was such a good man.

Mike and family,
My deepest sympathy on the passing of your brother. I vividly remember working with Rex and Mike at Kay Drug Co. when I was in high school. You two couldn't have been more different. Rex was all business, Mike the practical joker, both great guys in their own rites. Remember the good times and hold them close in you hearts, they will comfort you in your times of sorrow. God's blessings upon you in this difficult time.

Rex has commemorated both a garden site and sculpture - 'Francis and Brother Wolf' - both of which are being installed within the St Francis of Assisi Sculpture Garden at Marywood.

It is with great sadness that we realize he will not be able to see this project completed.....and yet through his kindness, thoughtfulness, generosity, dedication, humility, love of animals, and the joy he found in becoming an Instrument of Hope, it will be completed for all to enjoy, to remember, and to heal.

Marywood, and all the people within, was one of Rex's favorite places to be, and the sculpture garden is a place where Rex wanted people to visit, and to become a part of....and so he has left this gift, one of his last, to us all.

Please honor his gift...and visit this part of his legacy....rest on his bench....and be with his spirit. Let his story continue to be told.

He was a joy for anyone to know. My prayers and sympathy are with the family. Lisa Mitchell, Director of Associate Life
