Dekker, Roger Allen 1/20/2022 Grand Rapids Roger Allen Dekker, age 87, went home to be with his Lord on January 20, 2022. Beloved husband of Marcia Dykstra Dekker, nee Smit, and the late Wilma Dekker, nee Den Hartog (2000). Loving father of Shellie (Peter) Kooy, Roger (Lisa), and Rebecca (Todd Vestal). Cherished grandfather of Amberle Dekker, Brianne Dekker, Erica (Tom) Fencil, and Michael Kooy. Fond step-father of Deb (Tom) Van Duinen, Sandy (Rick) Doornbos, and Bill Dykstra. Loving step-grandfather and step-great grandfather of Michael (Amy) Doornbos (Miles, Andrew, Nolan), Jill (Dan) Lackey (Hannah, Ezekiel), Ben Doornbos, Amy (Jeff) Shaffer (Liberty, Larson), Aaron Van Duinen, and Abbie Dykstra. In addition to his late wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Anna, his sister Dorothy Den Ouden, and his brothers, John, Eugene, and Henry.Roger attended Calvin College, then joined the US Air Force, where he was stationed in Ogden, Utah, and Anchorage, Alaska. After leaving the military, he settled his family in Salt Lake City, Utah, and worked for Hercules Inc. for over 30 years. He was a faithful member of First Christian Reformed Church in Salt Lake City, Utah, for over 40 years, serving in many roles there. In later years, he was an active member of La Grave Avenue Christian Reformed Church in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Roger will be remembered for his love of music and singing. He was a choir director, hymn sing leader, and member of several choirs, including The Oratorio Society of Utah for over 25 years. "I will sing of my Redeemer, and His wondrous love for me." A memorial service will be held 2:00 pm Friday, January 28, 2022, at La Grave Avenue Christian Reformed Church. Visitation will begin at 1 pm. Friends and family may view a live-stream of the service via lagrave.org/funerals. Memorial contributions in Roger's memory may be made to World Renew or the Henry Beets Mission Society.

Marcia and families so sorry for your loss. We never lose the ones we love. He will be beside you in your thoughts and in your hearts. Remember him with fond memories and his special laugh. He was a kind man and will be missed.
